Анотация: The scope of the term "reliability" in technique is discussed. The examples of the incorrect usage of this term to characterize the results of measurements and observations are presented. The basic terms characterizing the accuracy and the confidence of measurements, observations, established in national and international standards are discusses. It is advisable to use the term "confidence" instead of the term "reliability" for a qualitative characteristic of the correctness of the results of the measurements and the observations. It is possible to speak only about the “metrological reliability” of the measuring equipment, in particular about the preservation of their metrological operability.
